About the paintings
Rosemary Dunning’s abstract works transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. They celebrate wonder in the unexpected and in the simple beauty of the world around us.
Some of her works are playful, some thoughtful, some tranquil, some passionate. She uses bold colours, dynamic brushstrokes, and textured surfaces to evoke emotion, a sense of movement, and depth. She masterfully blends vibrant colours and intriguing shapes, often using contrasting hues (such as orange and red against blue and turquoise) to generate visual tension and energy.
Her paintings express many human emotions: empathy, fear, joy, surprise, delight and love. They are intrinsically musical – perhaps not surprising from one who was a serious classical piano student before art stole her heart.
The rhythmic quality of her brushstrokes, her harmonious interplay of colours, and the titles of her pieces, such as “Chromatic Sumac”, “Middle C” and “Allegro with Dappled Light” reflect her deep love of music.
Her art is uplifting and empathetic, revealing and accepting. You might recognize your own feelings in her paintings. This is an invitation to react in your own way to the works you see here.
